Kingsley 2008 and Beyond:
Information Release to the Wesleyan Methodist Church of Australia

"Through the transforming power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, we at Kingsley Australia facilitate the development and equipping of Wesleyans to become empowered and passionate in their ministry to shape their world."

Factors outside the control of Kingsley College will have a negative impact on the viability for 2008 and beyond. This includes the imposed delivery restriction of conducting combined lectures for degree and postgraduate students, the increased qualification requirement of lecturers and the possibility that our plans to expand to offer courses in Education and Counselling may not be realized under current arrangements.

THIS CHALLENGE HAS PROVIDED THE OPPORTUNITY FOR KINGSLEY COLLEGE TO ACCELERATE THE DEVELOPMENT AND EXPANSION OF THE VISION TO DEVELOP AND EQUIP PEOPLE FOR SERVICE FOR THE WESLEYAN METHODIST CHURCH IN AUSTRALIA.

  1. The National Board of Administration has approved the proposal by the Kingsley Board of Managers to reengineer Kingsley College to become Kingsley Australia from the 1 January 2008.
  2. The National Board of Administration has approved the amendment of the Kingsley College purpose statement to include the words "of Wesleyans", instead of "people". See Above.
  3. The Kingsley Australia concept is a continuation of the strategic planning process undertaken by the Kingsley Board of Managers in 2004 where Kingsley was refocused as a service to the Church rather than a place.
  4. Kingsley Australia will focus on the training of people in preparation for, or currently undertaking, ministry in the Wesleyan Methodist Church. This will enable Kingsley to direct its efforts on training that contributes more directly to the mission of our Church.
  5. Kingsley Australia will establish a special partnership with Tabor Victoria but may also develop partnerships with providers in other States in the future to provide the best access for our people. (For a press release about the Kingsley-Tabor partnership please follow this link.)
  6. Current Wesleyan ministerial students from Kingsley College will enroll with Tabor College Victoria which will provide, in partnership with Kingsley Australia, training courses for ministerial preparation.
  7. Most Kingsley permanent staff and faculty will become employees of Tabor College. Some will have a continuing role with Kingsley Australia to provide the pre-service and in-service training, and manage the finances and administration.
  8. Provider partnerships will ensure the provision of suitable preservice ministry training. Kingsley Australia will organize the delivery of tutorials, short courses, summer schools or seminars to deliver Wesleyan distinctive training. This will necessitate the establishment of Kingsley Australia service centres in appropriate areas throughout the nation.
  9. Kingsley Australia will continue to work with the National Board of Ministerial Development to develop requirements, guidelines and governance of training for ministry in the Wesleyan Methodist Church.
  10. Kingsley Australia will direct all donations and income to the training and professional development of Wesleyans. This may include the provision of scholarships and subsidised professional development for our people.
